Portsmouth is famous for its connection to the sea. If you're a heritage, history and heroism fan, our latest partnership will put some wind in your sails.

Situated on the water's edge and packed full of the world's most famous ships, Portsmouth Historic Dockyard is the go-to destination for exploring iconic naval history.

Between them, the National Museum of the Royal Navy (NMRN) and the Mary Rose Trust (MRT) jointly operate the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard (PHD), a hub of nautical stories from the past, present and future.

These iconic organisations are setting sail on a new digital adventure to enhance their digital marketing efforts and have chosen Navigate to come aboard.

National Museum of the Royal Navy

The National Museum of the Royal Navy (NMRN) was established in 2009 and is the youngest national museum. It tells the story of the four fighting forces of the British Royal Navy, the Fleet Air Arm, the Submarine Service and the Surface Fleet.

'The National Museum of the Royal Navy is based across five geographical locations; they are part of PHD in Portsmouth (1) and Gosport (2), Fleet Air Arm Museum (FAAM) in Yeovilton, Somerset (3), the National Museum of the Royal Navy Hartlepool (NMRNH) in County Durham (4), and HMS Caroline in Belfast, Northern Ireland (5).

The Mary Rose

Formed in 1979, the Mary Rose Trust is responsible for conserving and displaying the Mary Rose hull and her unique collection of an impressive 19,000 artefacts. Based in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, the Mary Rose Trust's new museum opened in 2013 and delights all who visit as an atmospheric, interactive and modern museum accessible to all.

The Mary Rose Trust is responsible for developing the museum as a world-class visitor experience and scientific educational resource. And so far, they're delivering in this endeavour with new exhibitions and installations, including an immersive 4D cinema, which opened in 2023.

Portsmouth Historic Dockyard

Change to: As a visitor attraction, Portsmouth Historic Dockyard is run as a joint ticketing offer, meaning visitors can purchase one ticket, (an Ultimate Explorer), to experience the NMRN and MRT attractions of their choice all year round, offering a truly bespoke and customisable visitor experience.

It is often regarded as one of the UK's leading visitor attractions and welcomes more than 850,000 visitors annually.
